Fishing for Bass with Black Crawdad at Lake Olathe

Image
The Black Crawdad has been a superb bait at Lake Olathe. If you are fishing for Big Bass I invite you to take a 4" Black Crawdad with you to Lake Olathe. This 2.7 pounder was caught in September, and I will be experimenting with different crawdads after the rains in October. I want to see if they still attack these baits or if the big ones have focused on Shad for the rest of the year. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Lake Olathe Bass Fishing October 7th with the Rage Baby Menace

Image
Weather,64 degrees with a high of 72. Fishing in a cove with heavy grass along the bank.  I used a Strike King Rage Tail, Baby Menace, with a pea weight and a 3.0 hook.              At first I thought the hook may be a little large for this 3" Watermelon Red Fla but it was  just right for this1 pound 10 ounce Bass. I bounced this bait from 10 feet out and pulled it thru  the bank grass. He hit this Menace about 6" from the front line of the grass. I am finding  that the bass are hiding a little deeper than usual this time of year and sometime you just  have to hit them on the head to get them to bite.

Spring Hill Bass Fishing Oct 21 with a Square Bill Crank Bait

Image
October can be frustrating for Bass Fishing. On October 21st, after fishing along the western bank of Spring Hill Lake I hit an area of Bass than loved a Shad Square Bill Crank Bait.  I did a medium speed retrieve, trying to keep the bait from hitting the rock bottom of the lake which is a real bait stealer. I have donated a lot of jigs and chatter baits to the rocks on the bottom  of that lake. I swam this about 12" below the surface and caught 3 of these healthy hungry Bass ranging from 1.4 to 1.8 pounds. The lake is very low, so I am looking forward to fishing this lake after the rains that are coming in the next few days.

Best Bass Bait

Let’s talk BASS fishing . I am Dave with Creative Bass Adventures. I’m here to take you on a journey as we fish the lakes in Kansas and find out what it takes to catch Bass.... What baits work, Where they were feeding, and When they were active.  I will be fishing in the coldest months to prepare you for the hottest fishing times at a lake near you.  At the beginning of September the action slowed down at Lake Olathe. Fish being caught are 1-pound and under. This one was caught hidden in the grasses, and didn’t bite until the jig was deep in the weeds. He pulled the jig deeper into the weeds and I immediately hooked him and the stalk of a plant. It was a chore getting this one untangled and on shore. A paddle boat fishermen came by to help pull it out from the front of the grasses.
